Finance for Lawyers

How do we make this potentially dry subject interesting?

We have developed an approach which works and gets consistently high results:

1. Split the session up into bite size chucks with theory swiftly followed by application in our business game

2. Make the business game fun and competitive between groups of lawyers

3. Deliver the session in half a day

4. Develop the content of the workshop according to the needs of the firm

5. Use case studies based on the firm's clients

6. Make sure the training facilitator is high calibre, experienced and fun

Making finance fun - the ITD approach

This can be a very dull subject for those of us not excited by the words accruals, budget codes or

That's why we have designed a simple and fun game to bring all these exciting ideas to life. Through the session every 20 minutes or so we take time to enter the game, which is competitive with lawyer pitched against lawyer, has specific objectives dependant on your needs and allows the lawyers to put financial terms into practice.

CASE STUDY

A firm contacted us with a need for finance training.

There were two pressing needs:

1. For lawyers to issue more timely bills to clients

2. For lawyers to have a better understanding of business finance to make

them more rounded or complete business advisors

We discussed these needs both with the training people and then senior partners to get their perspective and to ensure they would follow up on the training. We also spoke with senior financial people in the firm to get a better understanding of the needs from their view and to understand the internal system requirements for time recording and billing.

We designed a half day and full day proposal based on the ITD business game. This business game makes the session fun, interactive and a potentially dry subject come to life.

The training was piloted by a group of senior lawyers in its half day format and received fabulous feedback.

the programme was rolled out to all fee earners in either its half day or full day format dependant on the lawyers experience.

This development of finance training can be totally adapted and designed according to the needs of your firm..
