Coaching Skills

What do we mean by coaching?

In this instance we mean a method of managing people. Coaching is one technique in the manager's tool kit particularly useful when:

1. The manager wants to develop the competence of one of their team

2. The manager wishes to develop the self reliance of one of their team

3. The manager wants to allow the person room to develop their own solutions

Why is coaching a useful technique?

All managers tend to have natural preferences for the style in which they manage. Very often this is linked to thier personality or work style and as such is an unconcious choice. Sometimes this may include a coaching style.

Coaching is a useful style because it helps to develop people and can be used to overcome some difficult situations.

Developing coaching techniques is usually easier to understand than apply. For example coaching often involves asking questions and listening to the answers. When you suggest that questioning and listening is a skill to develop a typical answer might include some scepticism. But when we practice the skills there is often a realisation that these skills are not always as easy as first thought.

Coaching can be a very rewarding technique with patience and a carefully thought through approach.

This development of coaching training can be totally adapted and designed according to the needs of your firm..
