Written Communication Skills
Do we really need written communication skills training?
If you're not sure about this ask yourself the following questions and then go and ask some of your colleagues:
- Do your firms business emails or letter consistently communicate what they are meant to communicate?
- Is there an agreed common structure to your firm's business emails and letters?
- When should a colon or semi colon be used?
- Do you know when to use an apostrophe appropriately?
- What is a split infinitive?
- Do your junior lawyers know the difference between their and there?
I know the last one seems ridiculous, but we have seen emails written by lawyers which demonstrate they do not.
Engaging and fun style
This written communication skills workshop is highly informative but is run in an engaging and fun style. Rules and guidelines are introduced using examples from actual emails and the content can be based on specific examples from your firm.
Planning, Grammar & Punctuation
The workshop is developed to suit the needs of your firm and the needs of the participants.
The planning section typically looks at what happens when we don't plan before we write and considers structure and the form of the communication. The grammar section looks at the choice of words, phraseology and sentence structure. The punctuation section looks at common mistakes and pitfalls. In using actual examples the subject is very relevant to the lawyers daily work.
