Workshop Overview

It is always possible to become more efficient in how we organise ourselves and our work.


Time management skills training can help you to become more efficient, develop a sense of managing tasks rather than them managing you and to lower stress levels.

The ITD approach to time management skills is to look for the underlying causes of time issues. We also explore behaviours that can create pressures on ourselves. The workshop focuses on each individual’s approach to work and how this can unlock opportunities to be more time efficient.

There are also a range of very straight forward tips which can have a high impact on time management skills. In our experience no single approach works for every individual. In a typical ITD workshop we work with your people to find the best solution for them, so that each participant leaves with a n umber of specific actions to improve their efficiency.

Pre workshop activity

  • Meeting to discuss the participant’s needs and those of the organisation
  • Draft workshop outline tailored to your needs
  • Agreement of agenda
  • Participants complete a short questionnaire and read the ITD Work Style Model in preparation for the workshop.

  • Half a day to a full day, or two half days.

Time & Work Management – Case Study

Business Services people in a large law firm.

Background

Similar to many firms over the past few years, these Managers have been asked to achieve more with the same or less resource. Many are expected not only to manage their team but also to produce work themselves. Personal efficiency is critical to achieving goals and objectives as well as managing stress.

 

Need

The firm recognises that the Business Services managers are dealing with increased work and pressure, and therefore would benefit from help or ideas on how they can manage this.

Activity

We put together a workshop which gave the participants opportunities to reflect on their approach to work. There was plenty of scope for discussion, learning from each other, sharing ideas and asking the training consultant questions on specific challenges. Typical questions asked by the participants were;

  • How do I improve my prioritisation?
  • How can I delegate more when my team are already busy?
  • We seem to spend time on less useful tasks, how can I influence my manager?
  • How can I manage distractions better?

Outcomes

The main outcomes of this session were:

  • The managers learnt that the challenges they faced in their team were typical for many, which is a good tonic.
  • They learnt new and specific ways to deal with challenges.
  • Each Manager left the session with individual behavioural change actions to implement.
  • There was also a sense of energy and renewed enthusiasm for the challenges they faced.
